Our History:
Since 1992, the KIDS Mobile Medical Clinic (KMMC) has provided more than 44,000 patient visits to children and adolescents living in the underserved communities of the District of Columbia who are at risk and have poor access to comprehensive pediatric health care services. Over the last year, we provided over 2,000 medical visits to over 1000 children in some of the city's most impoverished neighborhoods. We have also provided over 250 mental health and social service interventions. Our unique coordinated team approach to care is a best practice model. The clinic will continue to provide a medical home to children and their families for years to come.
Over the last 17 years, our mission has remained steadfast. The KIDS Mobile Medical Clinic was founded on the belief that every child, regardless of financial means, deserves high quality, community based, and comprehensive care. We continue to surround each child with a "blanket of care" within the scope of the program's key areas: Comprehensive Pediatric and Adolescent Health Care; Child Advocacy, Social Service and Mental Health; and Education and Outreach. In the last year, we have accomplished much in these areas by expanding sites, increasing services at a family homeless shelter through the medical student driven HOYA Clinic, and improving our efficiency and coordination using our cutting edge Electronic Medical Record system. We continually try to lead the way in reaching vulnerable populations with outstanding care.
The KIDS Mobile Medical Clinic is proud to work in collaboration with Ronald McDonald House Charities of Greater Washington, DC as a Ronald McDonald Care Mobile Program. This unique network of mobile units provides worldwide partners from whom we draw expertise, and to whom we offer our own considerable experience. This special vantage point allows us to help children around the world receive better care and promote Georgetown's mission of "cura personalis" - care of the whole person. Over the last few years, our program has diversified and expanded our relationships. Last year, with the very generous support of partners and collaborators like Ronald McDonald House Charities of Greater Washington DC, CVS/Caremark Charitable Trust, The Joseph E. & Marjorie B. Jones Foundation, The Harry and Jeanette Weinberg Foundation, the Hearst Foundation and the W. O'Neill Foundation, we have been able to bring more services to more children in need.
Our Mission:
The mission of the KIDS Mobile Medical Clinic (KMMC) is to improve access for underserved children to comprehensive services necessary to achieve better health care. This mission is based on the belief that every child, regardless of his/her financial means, deserves high-quality, comprehensive, continuous health care, delivered in a respectful, caring and family centered environment—a “medical home.” Our pediatric mobile clinic achieves this mission by delivering primary medical care to children, age birth to 21 years, directly in their neighborhoods at no direct cost to their caregivers. While providing primary medical care is our principle focus, we have incrementally expanded our programming to include mental health and social services, education, advocacy and hope to have ophthalmology services in the near future. Only by working as a professional team, can we hope to provide our patients with the services they need. As part of a larger institution of advanced education, our mission is also reflective of Georgetown University’s commitment to educate ‘women and men to be responsible and active participants in civic life, and to live generously in service to others.’
